Come hear beautiful stories about youth in Benzie County, written by high school kids, at the Mills Community House Bruce Catton Awards Ceremony at 7 pm. Refreshments to follow.
Friday, April 13Frankfort–Elberta Elementary holds its Kindergarten Roundup testing for every-day school for kids who will be 5 by December 1. Call 352-7601 to set up an appointment for this day. Then 0pen your heart and open a vein at the Benzie Central Blood Drive. MI Blood will give $10 for each donation and those proceeds will go to the Animal Welfare League. 9 am to 2 pm. Then, see if you get lucky at the Cabbage Shed Sock Hop! 6 pm to 9 pm

2nd annual Benzie Community Water Council 2012 Water Festivalsplashes down at Frankfort–Elberta High School. Discuss the responsibilities of living in the most beautiful place in America! Workshops and children’s activities, as well as connections to campaigns and projects to protect our water locally and address global challenges. At 1:30 Timothy Young of Food for Thought leads a panel discussion on new possibilities for entrepreneurship. Meet live reptiles and amphibians, eat delicious local food, and listen to homesprung local music by the Fauxgrass Quartet and Song of the Lakes. More details.
Wednesday, April 18Clean out your files by taking up to three bags or boxes of shredables to the Benzie Community Resource Center from 10 am to 2 pm. Shredded material goes to the Benzie Organic Solutions for use as worm bedding. Take that, Countrywide! 6051 Frankfort Hwy. Friday, April 20Mike Jones of Benzie Conservation District speaks on the emerald ash borer, beech bark disease, and other changes in the Michigan landscape. 12 noon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Sponsored by the Periwinkle Garden Club.
Saturday, April 21Friends of Betsie Bay Beach-to-Beach Cleanup. Meet at the Farmers' Market Park Pavilion at 9 am. Then go have free ham, scalloped potatoes, ice cream sundaes, and fellowship at the Elberta United Methodist Community Dinner from 4 pm to 6 pm. 555 Lincoln Ave.

Then at 7 pm, the Zoning Board of Appeals Hearing on Bay Valley Inn/Putney property for the community to discuss the denial of a land use application to put labor housing in the former Bay Valley Inn.
