The Fourth of July felt especially free this year if only because we could see, in the twilight’s last gleaming as we walked down the steep part of Bye Street to the beach, that the high chain-link and barbed-wire fence marking the former Elberta Land Holding Company property was not still there, having been removed by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. I had never been to this part of Elberta Beach, between the piers, to watch the fireworks. Photo by me.
